happy

This is a good happy picture. Most of the ones I take are out of focus.

enigmatic Scott says I look "enigmatic" here. I think I just look tired. Heather looks "enigmatic" though, which she always does right before she spits up. :)

Details, details

Heather joined the family at 8:37 PM Wednesday, 15th January 2003. She weighed 7 pounds and was 20 inches long. She is a sixth-generation Texan and a first-generation American.

The best-laid schemes...

Heather's mommy was glad to finally have her after a 48 hour labor. Heather's daddy was glad it wasn't him and that he didn't have to watch the whole thing when he could instead be eating a stale Twix™ and watching Mexican soap operas in a waiting room full of total strangers who spoke no Inglés.

Although a home birth was planned, a hospital birth became necessary when, despite all efforts, Heather continued to ignore her womb eviction notice. With sufficient coaxing, she eventually complied and was born the old-fashioned way with two wonderful midwives in attendance...all this in spite of a room full of expensive electronic machines capable of going "ping!"

After being pronounced human by a licensed pediatrician early the next morning, Heather was allowed to go home. Her parents soon realized the logistical challenges of caring for a tiny person incapable of ordering pizza or driving herself to Wendy's when she wants a snack.
